There are few things more appealing than a beautiful carpet that perfectly complements the room it’s in. But the nicer that carpet is, the more anxiety you probably have about keeping it clean. Some may have more success than others, but getting carpet stains is inevitable.

3 Simple Steps for Removing Carpet Stains

If you plan on keeping your floor covered, you have to know how to remove stains from carpet. But what is the best way to get rid of carpet stains? Here’s a three-step carpet stain removal process that may help.

1. Remove Debris

Before trying to get the stain out, remove everything that is above the carpet. Pick up or vacuum up any dirt, debris or other solid material. Gently blot up any liquid with a paper towel. You want to avoid rubbing anything into the carpet while trying to remove a stain.

2. Spray on a Cleaning Solution

To protect your carpet and keep your home environmentally-friendly, you can make a very effective, safe cleaning solution using white vinegar and baking soda. Take a cup of warm water and mix in a quarter teaspoon of white vinegar and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda. Mix it together and pour it into a spray bottle. You can increase the amounts proportionally depending upon how much you need. You can also add a drop or two of lemon oil to create a pleasant odor.

Spray the solution directly onto the stain and let it sit for about 10 minutes or so.

3. Remove Your Solution

After the appropriate amount of time, blot the area with a paper towel, and most of the stain should lift away. If you are not happy with the results, you can repeat the procedure. Follow up by dabbing the area with a washcloth to get rid of any excess cleanser, blot dry, then vacuum.
